Wipro Technologies is in active talks with engineering colleges to introduce courses in Data Analytics as part of their curriculum.
Understanding the increasing demand of qualified engineers especially in the field of Data Analytics and Big Data in general, Wipro appears to have spearheaded a campaign that might eventually see the addition of a new subject or maybe even a new stream to existing curriculum.
What is the company seeking? India’s Tech Industry in general will soon exceed US$ 108 Billion. This behemoth runs primarily on talent and that is surprisingly scarce, shared an industry insider with knowledge about Wipro’s activities, “The reality is that Indian companies are scrambling for good talent in areas such as analytics, cloud and mobility”
Wipro isn’t just on a recommendation spree, but appears to be interested in shaping up a whole new syllabus that would allow today’s students to venture into this quickly emerging field of Big Data Analysis and associated industries like Data Warehousing, Cloud Infratucture, SaaS, PaaS, IaaS and such. The company’s initiative is already being discussed and is on final stages of approval . Once introduced, the program will help Wipro introduce tailored courses in topics that are important to its ongoing business and reach out to a wider talent pool at the time of campus placements.
However, students who do opt for these courses won’t be obligated to join the company, clarified the source. Wipro has undertaken the project as part of its Wipro Academy of Software Excellence (WASE), where it offers science graduates an opportunity to do a Masters degree from the Birla Institute of Technology (BITS), Pilani, a technique recently adopted by Tata.
The company is effectively attempting to shape a curriculum that will form a talent pool for the industries of the tech age. Commonly referred to as SMAC, it stands for Social, Mobility, Analytics And Cloud and this segment is being bet on heavily by all tech industries. With Wipro’s effort these companies will now have ready talent.
